Starting a new job is always a little daunting. However, when you are three weeks in and they say, “so what do you think of a three week business trip to the Bahamas”, you kind of think, “well go on then”.
Obviously there are a few other questions:
“Will I fly business?”
“Is the hotel on the beach?”
“Can I claim expenses?”
When, obviously of course…, the answer to all of the above is “yes”, one can’t help but think “nice”. Or, rather, BEST BUSINESS TRIP EVER!!!!!
Well, it wasn’t quite a promised. It seems there is only one direct BA flight a day to Nassau and as a result, given it is the preserve of the rich, they don’t have a business class cabin… only first. So a free upgrade!
The office, however, was not first class but rather a windowless room full of boxes waiting for a due diligence review… Still, I wasn’t complaining.
At the weekend I had the chance to wander round a bit. It seems the capital itself is quite poor and the wealthy resorts are still on the islands.
As with all countries, however, poverty never stops fun at the beach.
Sadly, this was the most exciting my tenure at Charles Russell was… until they seconded me to Amsterdam…
