So, “exotic” work trip number one for the month was Salt Lake City (Vancouver still to come in two weeks). I won’t lie, this was a strange place. The location of the head of the Mormon church with a White House style capital building, the city is situated on flats at the foot of Wasatch mountain range. A former location for the Winter Olympics the setting is really quite stunning. However, arriving on Sunday, it was all closed… This really is religious America (and not the religion of consumerism like California).
Arriving around lunch time (after getting stuck at the airport for an hour and half while waiting for an engineer to fix the sole luggage belt in the International Terminal… I kid you not) I took a stroll up to the top of Ensign Park, the city look out, for a view of the town.
Not content with small hills (and with a day to kill), I decided to investigate the “bigger hills”. After watching Spurs demolish Man U away 3-0 (a rare occasion), I Ubered it up to the local ski resort and top the skyline to the pinnacle. Pretty impressive stuff.
Having been up the mountain, it was time to head back to town to have dinner with the rest of the team who had arrived. Of course, this would be the first time that I have not had any Ubers in range. Awesome… Still, only a 12k walk back to civilization. It is good for me as they say…
The next day was all meetings (12 straight hours) but with the carrot that we would have the following day off and visit the Bonneville Salt Flat followed by axe throwing (a clearly non-HR approved work activity).
The salt flats were awesome with a moonscape like feel.
A nice team photo.
And…
With good levitation abilities shown by Jeroen.
After returning to the city it was time for some team axe throwing (clearly not HR approved) and that was that for this trip.
On to Vancouver in ten days.
